Recently, the new Heilongjiang Hegang civil airport project was jointly approved by the State Council and Central Military Commission.

The new airport is a feeder airport with a flight area of Class 4C, and a designed capacity of 450,000 passengers, 1,600 tons of cargo (freight and mail), and 5,360 landings and takeoffs.

The project involves construction of a 2500 m×45 m runway and two vertical taxiways, with Class I instrument landing systems and 900 m precision approach lighting systems in both directions; a 6500 m² terminal building, three boarding corridors and an apron with six spaces for Class C aircraft; one tower and a 800 m² air traffic control building as well as air traffic control, power, water, heat and fuel supply facilities.
